  • Jim Austin

    Author

    <p>Jim Austin combines business strategy and organizational development theory with extensive industry experience. Jim is a faculty consultant at the Aresty Institute of Executive Education, Wharton Business School, where he tailors senior-level seminars. Specifically, he leads seminars at Wharton on finding new growth opportunities, building a vision, execution and leading strategic change and more.</p><p>In 2013, Brown University appointed Austin as a senior lecturer of Healthcare Leadership. He is currently an adjunct assistant professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice. From 1996 through 2016, Austin was a business management professor at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management where he received the “Most Distinguished Corporate Education Faculty Member” (2009-10) and the “Learning Excellence” (2015) awards. From 2013-2016, he was an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Health Systems Management, College of Health Sciences, Rush University. Austin’s book, <i>Transformative Planning: How Your Healthcare Organization Can Strategize</i> for an Uncertain Future (Health Administration Press, 2018), helps healthcare leaders drive transformational change.</p><p>From 2005–2016, Austin worked at Decision Strategies International where he directed numerous projects including a strategic plan for the American College of Radiology, scenarios of the future for the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and a new vision and strategic priorities for the national and IL Boards of Volunteers of America (VOA) to name a few.</p><p>Prior to joining Decision Strategies, Jim spent 12 years at Baxter Healthcare, the last four as vice president of strategy development for the renal division where he identified new business opportunities, facilitated annual strategy planning processes and worked with senior management on organizational development.</p><p>Austin holds a BA in economics and politics from Yale University. He was a special student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Urban Studies Department where he received a joint Master of Public Affairs (MPA) and Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) from the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. Previously, Austin was chairman of the Strategic Leadership Forum, a board member of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, member of the Board of Directors for the University Club of Chicago among several other organizations.</p>

  • Jennifer L. Bickel, MD

    <p>Dr. Jennifer Bickel, a Berkeley Certified Executive Coach, serves as the chief wellness officer at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She works with senior leaders across the organization to ensure staff wellbeing is incorporated into all decisions. Dr. Bickel has real-world experience in assessing burnout across healthcare organizations and in developing effective, evidence-based strategies to reduce clinician burnout. Her innovative strategies to improve physician and healthcare worker wellbeing have been nationally recognized in publications and presentations. As an academic professor and neurologist, she has won awards in mentorship, leadership and clinical program development. She currently serves as a member of the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative for Clinician Wellbeing and as the chair for the American Academy of Neurology’s Wellness subcommittee. Dr. Bickel received her medical degree at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and completed her neurology residency at the University of Kansas.</p>

  • David B. Brody, FACHE

    <p>David Brody is responsible for the overall administration of the over 250 location ambulatory network and medical group spanning across Nassau and Queens counties in New York. He is responsible for the leadership, strategy, financial management and operations of a network that sees more than 2.4 million appointments per year and has more than 5,000 team members, including over 1,200 physicians.</p><p>Prior to his current role, Brody was the senior vice president for the ambulatory service organization where he was responsible for patient access, service line development and ambulatory shared services. Previously, he was the deputy executive director for the cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery service lines. There, he was responsible for the clinical and administrative operations for both service lines across the entire Northwell organization.</p><p>During his tenure, Brody helped to develop and launch brand new heart and lung transplant programs. He also partnered with clinical leaders to expand access to best-in-class sub-specialty medicine and surgery across the downstate region of New York. Furthermore, he supported a cardiovascular surgery program which was one of three programs nationally in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons’ database to achieve the highest rating of three stars in all five surgical categories.</p><p>Brody has held a variety of positions within Northwell Health, he began at Northwell’s Center for EMS, where he covered both 911 emergency work in the NYC EMS, as well as critical care interfacility transports. He also held several positions in hospital administration at North Shore University Hospital. Immediately prior to joining cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, Brody was the administrative director for emergency medicine and surgery at North Shore University Hospital.</p><p>Brody received a Bachelor of Arts in economics from New York University and a Master of Public Administration degree from the New York University Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.</p>

    <p>Charmaine Spence Rochester, DHA, CPA, FACHE, FHFMA, serves as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the University of Cincinatti Health System (UC Health). Dr. Rochester has over 30 years of experience in finance and executive leadership, having spent time with organizations such as KPMG, Bon Secours Hampton Roads, and Penn Medicine. Prior to joining UC Health, she was with the Cleveland Clinic Florida serving as CFO and a strategic partner to the CEO as the organization worked to expand its presence in Florida.&nbsp;<br><br>Dr. Rochester is board-certified in healthcare management and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA).     <p>Joshua Snyder leads the financial strategy, operations and performance for Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital.
