Biography

Serving as full professor and faculty director at DePaul University, Marty Martin also leads the innovation enterprise at DePaul in his role as research and innovation leadership faculty fellow. In this role, he is responsible for managing a $2.5 million strategic portfolio of innovations designed for commercialization and social impact. In his academic role, he launched several degree programs and has published more than 125 articles, several book chapters and three books. His scholarly work has been featured in USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. Prior roles at DePaul included senior executive for Institutional Diversity and assistant vice president of Human Resources and Human Resources Information System.

Before serving in these leadership roles at DePaul, Martin was a visiting scholar in residence at The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and director at The Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was responsible for building out the global health footprint of the Hospital and delivering physician leadership education.

Martin serves today on several boards including the Center for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) and some small digital health startups. He also has the privilege of serving as a coach to many physician leaders seeking to perform at a higher level, perform with less stress and to navigate the complexities of multifaceted organizations.

Martin earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Rutgers University. He also has several masters degrees ranging from public health to behavioral sleep medicine. He is writing his next book titled Ethical Leadership: A Guide for Physician Leaders which will be published in 2026.
